SOME MORE STORIES ABOUT THE POMACIOUS FRUIT
Today on our menu: the second of two posts about recent stories you may have missed.
The first post is here.
The Next Honeycrisp: There have been a spate of stories about Honeycrisp alternatives.
Honeycrisp wannabees |
Bloomburg looks at seven that are, oddly, not very much like Honeycrisp at all. (The exception? Evercrisp.)
The story quotes several growers who are critical of Honeycrisp's lack of flavor. Is corn syrup a flavor? (I am an unabashed flavor fan.)
It follows another recent Bloomberg story about how Honeycrisp is ripe for challenge because it is difficult to grow, transport, and store.
Bewilderingly that story describes the Big Sugar Bomb as "bred for taste." What taste? (See above.)
There must be something in the air, because I wrote my own version of the Honeycrisp-replacement story last March.
Cider. I am in debt to @DrinkingCiders for sharing how apples get from orchard to table, in a bottle.
