MAIA test 84

This apple has Applewith a red blush that nearly covers yellow

This unnamed apple is large and oblate, with a red blush that nearly covers all the underlying yellow.

Striking tan lenticels jump out, while the merist of ribbing is only noticeable on close inspection.

Inside find medium-fine-grained light yellow flesh, a little tender. Flavors are a well balanced (but sweet!) mix of fruity and vinous tastes, with a little generic spiciness.

The sweetness sits a bit heavily after all is said, done, and eaten.

This is a little like, what if you crossed a McIntosh with a Baldwin (and the result was extra saccharine).

84's crunch could be better, but on that score I suspect loss of quality due to time off the tree. A Mac might fare similarly by this time of year.

There's not so much to say about this apple. I don't know its parents let alone its fate.

Still it is fun to taste new things, and who knows? One of these mysteries, named at last, could end up in your orchard or supermarket someday.
