At farmers market today only one kind of apple, from just one vendor.
Not a great sign for this year's harvest, but if I had to pick just one of the earlys it would be this one: Pristine.
Pristine is lively and bright and fizzy, marinated in the Sun's honey.It's my first local apple of the year (I passed on July's Lodi, thanks), and worth the wait.
I stuffed five of them in my bag and pedaled home.
Sounds like a good apple. Pretty, too.
ReplyDeleteWhere are they from? Maybe further east than us in Harvard. I've got quite a few treesand they look beautiful, but they're not quite ripe enough to begin picking.
ReplyDeleteThese were from the Nicewicz Family Farm (which, for the benefit of those not from the area, is in Bolton, just south of Harvard).

Just picked the last of my Pristine (August 15) here in NE Ohio. This year's crop made an excellent pie, and great chunky applesauce. Eating one fresh off the tree after having been warmed greatly by the afternoon sun provided an incomparable gush of sweet juice with every bite. Heavenly.
ReplyDeleteI still esteem the fleeting charms of Yellow Transparent, but Pristine is probably the best early apple.
