French markets are like ours. Only different.
At the Marché Saint-Antoine, on the Presque Isle bank of the Saône River in Lyon, the farmers and food artisans set up their stalls six mornings a week.
It wasn't apple season last month, alas, but the berries and stone fruit were gorgeous.
There were only 2 or 3 kinds of apples for sale here, "Golden," "Granny," and Gala. I think these are the default off-season varieties in France.
They were not fresh (it was late June!) and almost certainly not local.
Bien sur, it's a stretch to include these images on my apple blog. But do write about farmers markets here, and I feel like sharing.
It's a beautiful market in a city of gourmands (that's French for "foodies"). I wonder what apples they sell in the fall.
Update: I fixed a problem with the short video clip above.
Wow - what a sight to wake the senses. I especially enjoyed seeing the bread and beautiful cheeses!
