18 apple choices

MARKET NOTES

Heaps of apples of may colors, arranged in wooden crates

It has taken a while—this is the worst year for local apples that I can remember—but we are finally into high season.

I counted 18 different varieties for sale from the three vendors at farmers market in Arlington (Massachusetts) today.

These included Melrose, Macoun, Westfield Seek-No-Further, Jonathan, and Golden Russet. I brought all of these home.

Westfield was available last week, too, but this batch is better. I ate one (and a Macoun, also at peak) on my way home.

Hey Honeycrisp fans, give Jonagold (also for sale) a bite this week! You won't be sorry.

Enjoy the season!
