First!

A crate of apples and a pop-up label that says "Vista Bella"

The harvest begins with a crate of Vista Bella and the distinctive flavor of watermelon candy.

A grateful bow to those supermarket apples who saw me though the spring, but I'll be dancing with local partners for a while.

  1. Haven't seen this variety (yet) but just had my first apple of the season - a White Transparent growing on an old, gnarled tree in a long grown up fence row on a farm that's been in my family for about 70 years. There's several old trees up there on their last legs, so I've been taking cuttings and grafting them.

    1. Transparent is among the finest of the early earlies (I give it 2 stars), but I no longer have a ready source, alas. Pristine (up this week here) makes a fine alternative.
