Pristine comes early

For the third week in a row, only one vendor at our farmers market had only one kind of apple. ¶

A wooden crate filled with yellow-green apples

But the fruit was different this week: a modern variety called Pristine. ¶

This has become one of my favorite early apples.

Pristine is crisp and sophisticated, and keeps better than many early apples.

Later in the season we'll have more choices in orchards and markets. We'll see more of the classics that define fall.

For this week, and maybe next, grab some Pristines if you can.

  1. I picked up a few Pristine today. Very nice, fruity and tangy. Thanks for the heads-up!

  2. I am thinking that my first graft onto my "early" tree (Summer Rambo) will now be Pristine, rather than William's Pride. Eventually, as the tree grows bigger, I will probably have both grafted.
