Since my first blog post here on this day in 2008, I have learned a lot about apples, and a bit about blogging too.
The plan then was simple: go to Farmers Market every week, see what was ripe, and tell the world.
My first assay in the craft was my Vista Bella review that same day, Wednesday, when Arlington has its farmers market.
Fast forward
Vista Bella made its 2025 debut early last week, but by last weekend their quality had begun to slip.
Early apples can be like that, and early apples picked early can really be like that.
Last year grew my opinionated catalog of apples (including some sports) to 398.
The start of the harvest is a hopeful time that fills me with anticipation. Let's see what the year has in store for us!

thank you!
ReplyDeleteIt is my pleasure. Thanks for reading!
DeleteThank you for your time!
ReplyDeleteYour blog has become a great place for apple enthusiasts to gather and discuss. Nobody in my face-to-face life cares how my D'Arcy Spice is doing (which is very well, thank you).
ReplyDeletePlaying host to this conversation is what keeps me going.
DeleteAs newbies to the search for good apples, we rely on your blog for your assessments and for the reviews of contributors. I am sure that we share with many others the deepest gratitude for your passion about apples, your careful assessment of varieties, and your dedication to keeping the blog going! We can't thank you enough.
ReplyDeleteTo the extent this blog as anything like an agenda, it is to encourage people to try new things. Thanks you!
DeleteYour passion for apples is truly remarkable. Thank you for Adam's blog.
ReplyDeleteAdam, what you’ve created here is nothing short of amazing. It looks like your posting schedule has been fairly consistent as well. So many people give up or get bored of maintaining their blogs after a few years, but you’ve kept at it and now have the most famous apple blog in the history of the internet.
ReplyDeleteYou are very kind, though the superlative is, I think, not true. I am however a big fan of blogging as a way to build a body of work, in small bits. This blog is an example of that!
DeleteCongratulations on maintaining this fun and informative site for all these years. I’ve been following you since 2010. We grow several of our apple varieties thanks to your reviews, and decided against others for the same reason.
ReplyDeleteThank you, John! I hope you do not regret any of those decisions about what to grow (or not).
