Bringing to bear

The apples ripen and swell at Hutchins Farm in Concord, Massachusetts, on August 26. ¶

As we near the end of pomological summer, more farms are selling a wider assortment of apples.

The ones in my photo from yesterday are not ready yet, but Hutchins does have some early fruit.

  1. Can you advise me on which variety would be best for a temperate climate? I particularly enjoy apples with a sour flavor.

    1. The best advice is probably to find a local specialist fruit nursery, and ask them what they have in stock, and what they think would grow well in your soil and general weather conditions. There's no substitute for expert local knowledge.
