Raw deal

Many kinds of apples at farmers market on a raw, wet day

Another year, and another photo of a raw, wet ending to farmers market in Arlington earlier today.

There goes the punch bowl, just as the party was getting good.

The week before Halloween marks the last farmers markets in many suburbs here, though others in nearby cities continue at least through Thanksgiving.

Consider this: there were more than two dozen different kinds of apples for sale today. I got Melrose, Macoun, and Ashmead's Kernel.

Yet the fruit is picked, the die is cast, and winter is coming!

Update: Pretty sure those "Melrose" were in fact Melrouge, a redder sport.
