Adam's Apples

This understated antique apple is a window on the past.  ¶  The last (and only) time I tasted Chenango Strawberry was in November (of 2017). I could tell then that the apple had been off the tree for a while.  ¶  Still, I did not appreciate how early the Strawberry actually ripens, and how long it had been sitting. Apples change in even the best storage, so I am eager to taste a fresh version.

I had my first Chenango Strawberry two years ago, picked two weeks later than this one (which dates from mid September). At the time wondered if my apple was a little too long off the tree, and wished for a second chance. Well I got my wish, and I think this is a slightly better version. What I learned, however, is that I pretty much nailed it the first time.

Spoiler alert: No strawberry flavors in mine. And it might not even be the right apple (but I think it is). I have two of these charmingly named apples (SheNANGo, or so I imagine), medium sized, oblated, and with the merest ribbing. The streaky red blush covers yellow green and is a dull crimson at its deepest.
