What a beautiful apple! I don't think we have many that are as dark-skinned as that here in the UK, although I've come across several varieties named in the old books that sound like they could have been similar: 'CÅ“ur de BÅ“uf' (beef heart), 'Blutapfel' (blood apple), Sanguinea / Sanguinole (bloody?). I suppose some of those might still be around, if you knew where to look for them. Our National Fruit Collection at Brogdale, maybe (memo to self: go check their database...)
