MAIA test 37

Conical apple with orange blush over yellow

The blush on this conical apple is a wash of translucent orange, except for one saturated swath of deeper hue. Of course, that is where the light-brown lenticel dots are largest and most obvious.

Ribbing on this variety is negligible, and my sample, hazard du transit, is bruised. The underlying peel is a sunny yellow.

37 has a yielding crunch and off-white flesh that is more fine grained than coarse.

The flavors of this well-balanced apple are a mix of sweet and savory, with pear and a touch of cream soda, and something a little nutty. Chestnut?

There is a trace of B vitamins in the finish.

It is possible that a fresher sample would present these tastes more distinctly. They work well together and make this is an enjoyable snack.

Also, perhaps 37 has a bigger crunch in some month other than December.

I won't speculate about whether this will meet the standards of the Midwest Apple Improvement Association, the tester of 37, but the flavor set is very good.
